If you are involved in youth football in the state of Colorado, then you know of this standout athlete Damian Castillo. We are waiting to learn which high school he will take his talents and abilities to next year. In the meantime, let's discuss his journey since we have been following him
Damian is what we consider a quiet leader in the football world. His style focuses on listening, reflection and thoughtful decision making. He is not a big rah... rah... kind of player but inside he is always ready to compete on the field. He is calm and assertive with a strong presence, and quiet strength to make a powerful impact.
He has good speed for the youth level and shows that he can run with the receivers he has to compete against. He will need to continue working on speed mechanics and definitely participate in the Track and Field program in the spring. Doing so will help him make more of an impact at the high school level.
Twitch and quickness are an area that Damian has improved at but should be a continued focus. I know that he has fluid hips and able to transition pretty well, so adding a faster reaction time with quick twitch movement will benefit him as he continues with the defensive back position
Damian has a worth ethic that competes with some of the top players at his age. He is very consistent and will never complain about the intensity of the work out or the duration. He understands the importance of discipline and he walks the walk. At a young age, Castillo understands priorities and which task are the most important for him to reach his goals.
He is a very responsible player and on the football field, he will execute his assignments. I love the if he doesn't understand something, he displays humility and ask the question so that he can perform correctly. When he gets it wrong, he takes the credit for it, learns from it, fixes it and moves on.
Damian never gets too high or too low and that's special. He doesn't get in his feelings about the game. He takes coaching and doesn't fold with criticism. He has never talked back to his coaches and never speaks poorly about his coaches. He is a great teammate who is always putting the group first.
Academically, he is at the top of his class. You can tell how he performs on the field that he takes pride in the classroom setting. From what I hear from his parents, he is very focused as a student and hardly distracted. Damian really has a strong interest in pursuing his academic studies and interest.
Damian, I just want to see you succeed in the sport of football as well as in life. I see you accomplishing great things as a young athlete right now and I know that the sky is the limit for you. Don't ever allow the negative things that happens to you in life to slow you down. Keep the focus you have for the rest of your life.
